General Notes:
[Baird.FTW] [Brøderbund WFT Vol. 16, Ed. 1, Tree #0097, Date of Import: Sep 19 , 1999] The genealogical index of Miami Valley Pioneers, Ohio, show William as coming from Morris County, N. J. He subsequently moved to Pennsylvania an d settled in Dunstable township, Northumberland, now Clinton County, where he bought 218 acres of wild land in 1785, on which he built a log house that wa s his home for the rest of his years. In "The Chronicle of the Bards", by Fe rmine, he is said to have married Margaret Riley, not O'Riley, as reported in other records. Records indicate the children were all born in New Jersey. Tr adition says all except John came with their widowed mother, Margaret O'Riley Baird and sister, to Burke County about 1790-95, near Morgantown. Elisha, Z ebulaon and Benent went to Buncombe County amoung the first settlers. They c rossed the Blue ridge Ridge on horse back. Ashville was first owned by Bende nt and Zebulon, except the Eagel Hotel, owned by William Welch (Welseh) who w as Bendent's father-in-law. Bendent and Zebulon had the first core in Ashvil le, and brought over the first wagons. Andrew settled in Burke County. Zebu lon's old log house was constructed with loop holes as it was to be used as a blockhouse. It was two and a half miles north of Ashville, but is now on on e of the principle streets. He was a Captain, then major, in the Somerest Co unty Militia. He served from 1777 to 1779. -------------------------------- ------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------- --- [Information sources provided by James Blaine Baird vie.
