[Baird.FTW] [Brøderbund WFT Vol. 16, Ed. 1, Tree #0097, Date of Import: Sep 19 , 1999] According to a Kansas Historical Society records [BBB V551] John Baird sailed from Scotland on the ship 'Caledonia', which sank in New York harbou r and arrived at Elizabethtown, N.J. There are also some records which state he sailed on the ship 'Exchange'. The sailing on the ship 'Caledonia' seems better authenticated. [Records supplied by Fran Molloy (Darling-Baird) indica ted that John Baird was deported from Scottland in 1683.] [Records supplied by Fred Baird indicated in his research that John Sr. sailed from Aberdeen, S cotland, arrived in Staten Island, N.Y., Dec. 19. 1683. Records supplied by F red Baird indicated that John Baird emigrated at age 18 from Aberdeen on the ship "Exchange 19", and served four years in bondage, then settled in Topene mus Co., New Jersey. All this information com es from the old Parish registers in Liberton, which is now a suburb of Edinbu rgh, Scotland.] He along with his two brothers [James and Alexander] settled n ear Topanemus, N.J. [now Marlboro, N.J.] In 1741 John [Sr.] conveyed land to his son John, Jr., which Sr. had purchased from Thomas Warne in 1688. John Sr. married Mary Hall but there is no record to show how long they were marrie d or if there were any children. He then married Mary Bedient. [John Sr. wa s the second spouse of Mary, the widow of Tomas Bedient. Her parents were Ri chard Osbourn and Mary Bernard of Staines, England.] It is with Mary Bedent that children were born. He is buried in the Topenemus Cemetery,Topenemus, Mar lboro Co., New Jersey. The marker shows he came to America when he was eig hteen years of age.
