bullet  General Notes:

[Baird.FTW] [Brøderbund WFT Vol. 16, Ed. 1, Tree #0097, Date of
Import: Sep 19 , 1999] According to a Kansas Historical Society
records [BBB V551] John Baird sailed from Scotland on the ship
'Caledonia', which sank in New York harbou r and arrived at
Elizabethtown, N.J. There are also some records which state he
sailed on the ship 'Exchange'. The sailing on the ship
'Caledonia' seems better authenticated. [Records supplied by
Fran Molloy (Darling-Baird) indica ted that John Baird was
deported from Scottland in 1683.] [Records supplied by Fred
Baird indicated in his research that John Sr. sailed from
Aberdeen, S cotland, arrived in Staten Island, N.Y., Dec. 19.
1683. Records supplied by F red Baird indicated that John Baird
emigrated at age 18 from Aberdeen on the ship "Exchange 19",
and served four years in bondage, then settled in Topene mus
Co., New Jersey. State of New Jersey Archives; Trenton Book
A-155, Journ al of American Genealogy by Forman & Perrine,
Vol.1. All this information com es from the old Parish
registers in Liberton, which is now a suburb of Edinbu rgh,
Scotland.] He along with his two brothers [James and Alexander]
settled n ear Topanemus, N.J. [now Marlboro, N.J.] In 1741
John [Sr.] conveyed land to his son John, Jr., which Sr. had
purchased from Thomas Warne in 1688. John Sr. married Mary Hall
but there is no record to show how long they were marrie d or if
there were any children. He then married Mary Bedient. [John
Sr. wa s the second spouse of Mary, the widow of Tomas Bedient.
Her parents were Ri chard Osbourn and Mary Bernard of Staines,
England.] It is with Mary Bedent that children were born. He is
buried in the Topenemus Cemetery,Topenemus, Mar lboro Co., New
Jersey. The marker shows he came to America when he was eig
hteen years of age.
