I'm searching for ancestors and family history of Ambrose Hadley, born 1758 in VA or NC. He lived in Halifax County, NC; Warren County, GA; and Maury County, TN, where he died in 1839.
Ambrose was a Quaker and gave patriotic service for NC during the Revolution. He is listed in the DAR Index.
He was married three times, to Anne Bustin, Elizabeth Parham and Louise McCleod. He had 23 children!
I have information on several decendants, as well as his father, William, and his grandfather, Ambrose, who died in Edgecombe County, (later Halifax) NC, in 1748...I

Hi Tammy, I have found Ambrose Hadley in Georgia, along with my relatives, Ben and Simon Hadley, in land lottery records. I have never seen Ambrose listed in our Quaker line and am curious to know more about this family of Hadleys. Was there a Frederick Hadley in this bunch? I am curious because I have the records of Ben Hadley's passport from GA to the Mississippi territtory in Nov 1806 and also listed is a Frederick Hadley. We can't figure out who the heck he is, or where this Ambrose Hadley fits in. Our branch were also Quakers in NC before moving to GA, so I'm very interested in your line of Hadleys. Please reply

"... John, My Ambrose was in Warren GA with his wife, Ann Bustin, before 1797, leaving for TN after 1807. They had several children there, Rebecca, Christopher, Anna, Ambrose and Henry. I think his wife Ann died in GA. Amborse's next wife was Elizabeth Parham, whom he may have married in GA.
My Ambrose does seem to have a brother, Ben, who shows up in NC tax records until 1783.
Did I mention Ambrose gave "pariotic service" in the Revolution and is listed in the DAR register?
Also, he lived through three wives and had 23 children! (I'm sure to be related to half of Maury Co, TN.)
Ambrose's father is William, his mother is Martha and his other brother is Joseph. William's father is another Ambrose, who died 1748 in Edgecombe, Co. NC (later Halifax.) I have a copy of a wonderful document, the inventory of this first Ambrose's property, given over to his son, William, at his death. William also received one of the original land grants from the Crown in 1749.
Tell me more about the Quaker NC Hadleys in your family! Where did they live and do you know where they came from? I suspect mine came from Isle of Wright VA, but can't prove it yet. Tammy

Tammy, you mentioned your Ambrose Hadley, the Revolutionary War, and Maury Co., Tn. in your message. Would this Ambrose HADLEY, be the same one who had a daughter named Nancy, b. @1806 in Ga., who married Edmond COOPER? They were in Maury Co., Tn. on the 1850 census record and named a son Ambrose Cooper. I show Nancy Hadley's father as Ambrose, and would like very much to have further information on them..."

The Ambrose Hadley(3) who died in Edgecombe Co., NC, in 1748 was most likely the brother of William Hadley. William Hadley is named in the will of Ambrose Hadley(2) in Isle of Wight Co., Va, in 1779. He, in turn, is named in the will of Ambrose Hadley(1) in Isle of Wight Co., Va., in 1704 (probate 1713)."

I had just come to the same conclusion about Ambrose and Ambrose and Ambrose through finding the wills of Ambrose(1) dataed 1703/4 and Ambrose(2)dated 1778 through a fellow reseracher (and fifth cousin) Clara Daniels. So, how do you fit in, Jim? And what proof do you have that William in NC is the William named in the will of Ambrose(2?

Wilda...If your Anna is from Warren County GA, my guess is that she is the daughter of Henry Hadley, son of Joseph Hadley of Halifax, NC. Henry came out to GA with his uncle, Ambrose (my ancestor)sometime after 1793. I don't have the names of Henry's children, but, your Anna married a Parham, and my Ambrose also married a Parham and had business dealings with a Parham. I doubt it's a coincidence..."
