Mr. Giesy entered the employ of the government as abstract clerk in the qu
artermaster's department, with which he was connected for about eight mont
hs. He then returned to Lancaster, but in 1864 again accepted a posti
on in the quartermaster's department, where he joined his brother. He h
ad just reached his post when he was captured by the rebels and was he
ld a prisoner for four months and a half, being confined at Cahaba, Alabam
a. At the end of that time he was exchanged and returned home.
